The reformist churches came after so you can't claim to be the "original" christians being a new movement. I've argued with Brits who think Henry VIII was the downfall by splitting from Rome, but this was already an unnatural split between the monarch and the priesthood. The King represents the pinnacle of the priesthood
Henry VIII became head of church which is very much like the ancient kings and around the world which were heads of their temples (japan, iran, rome, druidic and germanic cults), using the regal spiritual authority as a basis, as the high priest represents ultimate spiritual authority, even Islamic scholars from the 800s note this.
