emulation is still shit when it comes to ps2 and one thing that it will never be possible to emulate are analog buttons
in mgs3 for example in order to choke a soldier you have to press lightly circle and to kill him you have to press harder
the result on emulator is that whenever you grab a soldier snake immediately slices his throat because the emulator interprets the button press as a strong push and this fact makes the game pretty much unplayable
ps2 emulation imo also looks worse because some elements of the screen are rendered in a higher resolution and some look pixelated
ps2 softmodding is so easy nowadays that you don't even need a freemcboot card nowadays
just buy a ps2 slim and a batch of dvds, patch isos you want to burn, burn them onto a disc and any slim modded pr not will play it
this method also works for playing games from other regions
if you feel free to ask bc I'm somewhat of an expert when it comes to ps2 modding
