Obviously the human sacrifice, slavery, and cannibalism was bad but it isn't enough to warrant killing shit loads of them.
The Spaniards didn't have to forcibly take over their empire to teach them about sanitation or Christianity you could have just told them about it. They would definitely come to the Spaniards once they saw how much awesome shit they had. The Spaniards could take one of the diplomats back and teach them about all their shit and then bring the guy back to the empire.
The native Americans in the USA were mistreated but we ultimately had the moral right to take their land and civilize them because they were wasting it.
