did i mention anywhere that it has to be a different engine than source? it obviously doesn't. there are a shitton of hl1/hl2 mods out there using all their assets including character models
they can get away with the setting by being vague. and the plot itself is not canonized by valve
they don't have to promote it being a half life sequel or anything
i'm no copyright infringement genius like your fucking kike ass is but i'm pretty sure the devs would find a way. it may end up having plot holes, but that's besides the point
