unfortunately, they all had competing interests whiched doomed the alliance from the start
italy wasn't even a "power" and that was clear the moment they tried fighting anyone who wasn't african
germany was so hellbent on conquering russia that they ignored all sensible advice
japan was so hellbent on conquering china that they never bothered to help out the other two powers to any great degree
they all had their own agendas and because they never really coordinated with one another, it all fell apart.
japan and germany should have coordinated to take down russia; had they split the russian army into two fronts, they could have brought down russia easily. afterward, japan could have torn apart china at will.
