I tried getting into the steam version several times but I just can't for whatever reason, it should be right up my alley but it just doesn't stick

It's a huge game, with multiple game modes. I've only played fortress mode so far and that's just a sandbox simulation game. So I don't know much about adventure mode, but AFAIK you can go for an adventure in the same world you played fortress mode in.

just play rimworld, it's basically the same thing but easier and funnier and you don't need to spend 100 hours just to understand how to interact with environment and what is there even to do in this game
