Major offenders like murderers need to fight a set number of times based on the severity of their crime.
Death Row inmates have to fight until they die. They don't get a choice.
There's a constant bankroll back into the economy from all the ticket and pay-per-view sales, and the prison system has significantly less money going into it.
Plus, people are less likely to commit heinous crimes against others if they need to worry about fighting for their lives for the entertainment of the masses.
