The two great pillars of Western civilization are pædophilia and androphilia. There would be no philosophy without men being able to put some time to stay away from women and talk to other men about issues of interest to all, and there would be no education, no ethics, and no gymnasia without men being concerned for the rearing of young men of their own kind.
Thus, by creating social spheres apart from women, where men could be men and could engage in the training of the mind and body of other men, arose relations of love between older and younger men. Logic, rhetoric, the sciences, and the other great arts are all a product of these master-disciple relations that took place specifically in ancient city-states such as Athens.
