Since our internet speeds wasn't exactly up to par with Eastern Mass, there was legislation passed that more or less forced every city and town here to start their own ISPs for fiber optic internet, instead of belonging to monopolies owned by Xfinity or other broadband companies.
Western Mass is poised to eventually have the fastest internet speeds on Earth, all for a low price. I had fiber optic ever since my town did mine. It also helps that there are a ton of major colleges and universities where I live (UMass Amherst, Amherst College, Hampshire College, Smith College, Mount Holyoke College, Western New England College, American International College, Holyoke Community College, Springfield College, Springfield Technical Community College, and so on).
They kind of need fast internet to communicate with each other, so the infrastructure was already here to begin with.
