Jesus was not a sacrifice as many say. Why? Because Jesus being a sacrifice presupposes that the story of Jesus is literal and that Jesus was a historical person. Both of these things are false. The meaning of Jesus' suffering and death can best be understood by comparing it to other myths with the same meaning, for example the story of the Israelites. The Israelites being enslaved in Egypt has the same meaning as Jesus' suffering and death. When Jesus "died" he wasn't annihilated, he went to live in the underworld. The underworld that Jesus was in and Egypt which the Israelites were in are both metaphor for the same thing. And Jesus' resurrection has the same meaning as the Israelites being led out of Egypt through the Red Sea.
