Every bit of instinct stops you from ending your life. Assisted suicide removes the instinctual response. It's a hell of a lot easier to sit in a pod than actually pulling the trigger.
I wouldn't mind assisted suicide being legalized but it shouldn't remove the innate desire to survive. Don't put people in pods. Hand them a handgun and a bottle of jack.
