Many societies around the world don't think about it, or even think it is a myth. The Abrahamic faiths, especially Christianity, are the only ones that put free will as a front and center thing, and that's only because god gave us free will to choose to do the right thing that is in all of our hearts, not to choose to do the right thing. Freedom of speech, action and religion do not make sense unless viewed through a Christian lens, as a means of proving your faith to god by choosing to do the right thing.
