Should entry level jobs recieve better pay?

I was recently having a conversation with someone who believed that anyone working an entry level job shouldn't be entitled to anyhting above $30k a year. I asked him if he believed that well paying jobs such as construction and directional drilling (both of which I've done), should fall under the same category as they're both entry level? He believed that any entry level job regardless shouldn't be entitled to a “living wage” as they're entry jobs and nothing more. I'm working 86hrs/wk at a minimum, yet I'm not entitled to a good salary because I didn't get my position through a degree? There seems to be this growing sentiment that people working entry levels jobs aren't entitled to a decent wage. Why are so many people willing to make their own lives harder for the sake of nobility? Do others agree with this sentiment? Do others believe that higher pay should only be granted for those in degree driven fields?
