Local forecast is calling for a day time high of -31 C on Friday this week. That's the high! I am not pleased. Anything above -20 is okay but when things start to slide below that I become very unhappy. My car hates it. My old furnace groans under the strain trying to maintain a temperature 50 fucking degrees above the outside ambient.

You are reaching rather extreme temperatures there. The minimum here this year was - 30 C and people with no central heating tend to struggle with such weather. With the high levels of humidity some of your regions have this could be a challenge to endure.
