PSP had fewer games, but almost all of them are worth playing.
DS did have the dual screen gimmick, and it did have a version of Super Mario 64.
PSP natively played almost all PS1 games, if you made an eboot of them. It could also emulate everything and had 3D GTA games.
DS was cheaper and had Pokémon, so it sold way more units.
PSP had God of War, Monster Hunter, and an analogue nub.
I suppose the critical component is replayability.
I never see people talk about emulating the DS. Do they even have DS tests in hardware reviews? No.
3DS, sure. There's loads of that. Tonnes of people love playing it today on their Steam Deck.
Original DS? Less so. It's not as fondly remembered I guess.
But the PSP lives on.
The PSP definitely takes the cake, for me anyway.
