What does /pol/ think about the filioque? The more I look into both the Catholic and Orthodox sides of the debate, the less definitive of an answer I seem to find.

In the example image you posted of the Holy Spirit proceeding from the Father like a ray from the sun, wouldn't that analogy imply that the Spirit is a creation of the Father rather than a unique person of the trinity? Most analogies that try to explain the trinity seem to fall short whenever I see them for being modalism or partialism.

From what I can gather, the Catholic position seems to be that verses such as John 16:7 imply that the Son is capable of sending the Spirit forth (though no verse that states such directly). Is that all the Catholic argument boils down to? Implication rather than foundation in scripture? Seems incredibly gay to fracture a church over something like that.
