The fact that so many media outlets still name /pol/ as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" 4chan board ever only tells you how far 4chan still is from becoming a serious website. Reddit critics have long recognized that the greatest subreddits of all times are /r/pics and /r/funny, who were not the most famous or popular or known of their times, let alone of all times. 9gag critics rank the highly controversial /NSFW over /Gaming which is highly popular in social medias around the internet. 4chan critics are still blinded by commercial success. /pol/ did more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Reddit critics grow up browsing a lot of subreddits of the past, 9gag critics grow up browsing a lot of categories of the past. 4chan critics are often totally ignorant of the boards of the past, they barely know the most well known ones. No wonder they will think that the /pol/ did anything worthy of being saved.
