>>19492335It tries to skirt the line between badass and stupid. Sanguinious' speech at the eternity gate is badass. The grey knights slaughtering sisters of battle to bathe in their blood and prevent demonic corruption is stupid. No grey knight has ever fallen to chaos and they cannot be corrupted.
That's the game you play when you have dozens of different authors writing hundreds of different books
GW has gotten better at weeding out the stupid
The main issue two factions in the fanbase have is how much noble bright there should be to complement the grim darkness and how much the plot should actually move forward. Some fans get upset if the setting moves forward. Some fans get upset if good things happen, but keeping it grim and hopeless forever gets boring after awhile
Before the return of guilleman the whole setting was just raging against the dying light of the universe. It was hopeless and it was fortold there was no change. He is revived and it undoes every prophecy. No they have hope with 2 primarchs returned but the galaxy is in the worst shape it has ever been in and the imperium could be facing a civil war when the primarchs stop playing nice with the inquisition. Guilleman was reasonable and understood the inquisition was necessary to keep everything in order even if they were stupid and the opposite of what the emperor wanted. The Lion would be a much harder sell on that
