>>21958Has some good aspects, many bad aspects. It's not some sort of insane death cult that people think it is, it's really just an Arab version of conservative Christianity. A bit more regressive because Muslim countries are poorer, and poorer countries generally are more conservative about things like religion. I'll give an honest, unbiased overview of Islam and Muslims (I'm not a Muslim):
a) Most non-Arab Muslims don't understand Arabic. They're made to recite the Quran from a young age in Arabic, but very few people actually read the translated version of the Quran (if they're even literate, illiteracy is a pretty big problem in this country). Most Muslims have no idea what's written in the Quran.
b) Many of the bad things about Islam you hear are true, some are exaggerated or false (WikiIslam is mostly legit, it's an anti Islam site, I suggest doing your research there). Slavery is 100% acceptable, the Prophet did marry a prepubescent girl (most Muslims know this, the more modern ones try to deny it, major cognitive dissonance when it comes to this topic), the religion was spread by the sword.
c) Most Muslims don't want to do jihad on the west or anything like that. They do hope the entire world will become Muslim one day, but no average joe thinks he should grab an AK-47 and kill some infidels unless his family was hit by drones, or if he was mentally poisoned by some Wahhabi bastards.
d) Islam is regressive, it does cause problems, but it's not the source of all of Pakistan's troubles. I think with economic growth, improved education, and the passage of time, the birth of new generations, people will gradually start to believe less in Islam or at least try to reform it (even though the religion tries really hard to resist it)
>>22080We hosted our own cricket tournament a few months ago, everyone thought that was a pretty big deal. I don't really follow cricket though, but people here are crazy about it.
