>>1951673Some white people have a problem with acknowledging how truly harmful the genocide of the Natives and the centuries of discrimination against blacks, especially considering how said discrimination still lives on today in law enforcement agencies and the general public.
Back in my highschool in Texas, we had to set up a fictional court over a man who killed another man as revenge for drunk driving and running over one of his kids. We were divided into Prosecution A, Defense A, Prosecution B, and Defense B. The A's argued in one class and the B's argued in another class.
The teacher, who was pretty much very-left leaning now that I think about it, gave both sections two similar lists of details while she went to her office with two Seniors adminstirating us. There was a difference in the script though; Script A had the killer and victim being black and white while Script B had the killer and victim being white and black.
I was in Prosecution B, and holy shit, was the defense toxic. They were so fixated on the black man being a thug and how he deserved to get shot instead of being arrested and taken to trial instead of the white killer. It wasn't much different for Prosecution A as they did the same thing, they have ranted forever and ever about the black man infiltrating the white man's home and not talking much about the murder.
The lesson we got from this, according to our teacher, is how we would've reached a justified conclusion if she had just said "man killed another man as revenge for death of family member" without mentioning race. To be honest, the lesson was good, but it kinda strained some friendship I had with other classmates if that's how they truly see colored folk.
