Here those aren't too usual and I'd say they're just for kids, you can only find popular licensed characters, cheap Chinese copies of those characters, or cheaper generic animal toys with nothing special about them. The idea of having creators making series for collectors to be sold on gacha machines sounds completely alien to me.
Then again, I'm not too jealous. Since those are sold at random the catch is that you have to buy God-knows how many figures if you want a specific one (or a full collection), maybe it's a cultural thing and this feels more interesting to the Japanese, I can't help but see it as a waste.
