Ever since I was a kid I've wanted to be from the US and even though the rose-coloured glasses have fallen off as an adult, I still love America. I grew up with mostly American media and adore everything about the country and what it stands for, at least until recently. It's a special kind of insult being born in England, a country with the same language and one of the most similar to the States yet not being American, being barred from the centre of the western world. Americans and Brits will never be the same and I hate that. I have no pride in my heritage. Even if England arguably has a higher quality of life than the US, it means fuck all when the culture here is dead, little goes on outside of London and a few other big cities and the air of cynicism is unbearable. I'm not even joking.
