No, but there are some basic characteristics (e.g. intelligence level, impulsiveness, aggressiveness, susceptibility to addiction, ability to defer gratification etc.) that are heritable and predispose one towards developing more specific character traits. Put them in the right environment and you may start seeing some patterns.

No.

But, we know that races, like sexes, have an average difference in traits according to the big 5 model. The Chinese and Japanese are more conscientious than Americans for instance.

The common phrase is that despite averages differing between groups; "the variance within a group is much larger than the difference in averages between groups", but this is only true if you measure one variable, if you measure along one dimension. For instance if you measure the difference in neuroticism between men and women, women are on average more neurotic but there's a massive overlap between the groups. But as you aggregate more dimensions, like the fact women are more agreeable than men and less conscientious, you slowly create a distinct cluster that separates the two groups.

It's an entirely legitimate hypothesis this would be true in races too, and perhaps across other groups like sexual orientation. But it's not been proven that they are.

Traditionally, "race" typically refers to caucasoids, negroids and mongloids. There's huge variance in these three categories though so it's inadequate for many purposes.

This inadequacy leads people to say that race doesn't exist, that race is a social construct, race is skin deep etc. But we know that there are huge biological differences in people based on geneology. For instance, the intelligence of "blacks" is highly positively correlated with how much of their ancestry contains European geneology (and by proxy, how little of their ancestry is African). People use the ambiguity of "race" to deny biological differences in ethnicities altogether, but the only problem is that "race" isn't detailed enough.

I never understood this argument. It's like an inverse form of the correlation-implies-causation fallacy: "if the classification doesn't imply causation, then the correlation should be ignored".

What if you compared relative poverty geographically and not absolute poverty levels? Blacks often live in places that end up the subjects of gentrification, where poor areas are in close proximity to wealthy areas.

This is true. If the studies consistently return the same or highly similar results (and if the conditions remain consistent) then the fact that for instance a study counts all negroids as "black" and finds a high correlation between blacks and a specific trait trump the significance of the fact that negroids have a diverse geneology and aren't a strictly unified group.

The biological-anthropological conceptualization of race based on the caucasoid/negroid/mongoloid trifecta remains valid so long as that definition remains consistent throughout the discipline.

This isn't to say that the geneology can't be broken down even further. Like I said before not only are blacks less intelligent on average, but the relatively high IQ blacks are more likely to have European geneology.
