You'll read an article in the new york times with a "measured" explanation of why trump is wrong in his policies etc. etc. Then that night you get colbert and co ranting and raving with personal attacks in their screeds.
The "average" between the two is somewhere between mild distaste and absolute hatred, so the audience thinks "well, he must be PRETTY bad at least, even if the comedian is exaggerating. I'll vote for Joe, you never hear anything negative about him"
