There is a suicide epidemic ravaging the nation, yet nobody gives a shit. Listen to 'One More Light' by Linkin Park; regardless of what you think about the band's nu-metal image or cringy fan-base, Bennington was an intelligent, talented man, who crafted lyrics that resonate with this generation. We only hear about the celebrities who take their own lives, however, with the exception of a few high-profile cyber-bullying suicides. The problem runs deeper. The system is ill-equipped to deal with those who suffer from mental illness or addictions. We are stigmatized as damaged goods, and often blamed for being the authors of our misfortunes. People never listen to the sufferer's side of the story. We are medicated and placed in hospitals, or subjected to otherwise ineffective forms of treatment that do not address some of the root causes of psychological anguish.
