The real question is why didn't USSR call that shit out. Even if it would originally belief, just a couple years after that USSR discovered a phenomena of zero G adaptation, and there would have been very serious questions about why didn't it affect Americans. USSR was obviously in on the entire thing, and choose to acknowledge it.
There are two possible reasons for this.
First, official conclusion on assassination of JFK meant casus belli for total nuclear war which neither of sides wanted. An agreement was reached, when this achievement would be conceded to US in exchange for forgetting the incident.
Second, the entire "moon landing" had colossal religious meaning for various freemason buttfuckers. It being entirely virtual had nothing to do with that, maybe it was even better than real one since it involved astrological butt magic n shiet. And USSR was even more of a freemason structure than US, even though it was somewhat different freemasons, they absolutely didn't mind.
