>>19770035ironically he didnt steal the election, he was hugely popular and it was paranoia that lead to the watergate break in. he absolutely had no need to do it, and then as with most coverup the coverup was worse than the crime, and so he left office in shame. All he had to do was say "rogue elements of my party attempted to steal info from the democrats" and he would have been clear of any fallout, but it just got worse and worse, and lingered in the public eye for over a year as new info kept coming to light. the tapes and the missing sections are what eventually ended it for him.
