Many people on this board have autism, or at least a high number of autistic traits. Especially the lurkers. However, most people do not know what autism is, so I will explain. Autism is a collection of traits that help you to hunt and forage alone. These traits are found much more commonly in men than in women (because men are hunters). That is why 80% of people with autism are male. These traits are heritable, and are often passed from father to son.
Autistic people with an IQ over 100 are much more likely to fly under the radar and not get diagnosed. Autistic people with a below-average IQ do get diagnosed, and this is what people think of when they hear the word autism. These people have extreme difficulty managing their environment and communicating their feelings.
I am going to explain the condition in this thread, but you can also read about it here: https://windsorswan.substack.com/p/11-autism-in-depth
