The Russians on the other hand are mercenaries. They'll kill for a paycheque but they can't spend it if they're dead.
Nazis vs mercinaries = a lot of dead nazis and a lot a rich mercinaries.
The French legionnaires are also mercenaries, only with very high levels of training and the best equipment the French military-industrial complex can produce, led by officers of excellent academic qualifications. But their quality is a product of their expense. So they're enough to sort out colonial dust ups without taking casualties, not enough to fight a real war. Any more than that is just too expensive.
That said, I'm pretty sure at this point it's all a wedge to get Zalenski to sue for peace already. Macron is basically offering Putin everything east of the Dnipr, including Kharkiv (which means Macron believes Ukraine is fucked), but the sticking point will be Odessa since it's a majority Russian city and Ukraine is DEFINITELY going to have an ethnic cleansing when this is over. Plus the Transnistria/Moldova question.
