>>19874196>we may indeed see a rennaissance of japanese animation in the near futureWe're in one. It started in 2017 and it's only getting stronger.
And it wasn't by accident either. The Japanese government and corprotocracy invested heavily in manga and anime after the asian economic crisis in 1997. But they were producing mostly garbage because the suits had no idea what they were doing, they were just following trends (the age of moeshit).
But in 2017 came Made in Abyss, Tanya the Evil, Ancient Magus Bride, which were all runaway hits precisely BECAUSE they broke formula. And that was coming on the back of Attack on Titan and Overlord which had pushed the boundaries without stepping over the line.
As a result of that the suits let go and let artists art. Withing 2 years it was Vinland Saga, Kaguya-Sama, Demon Slayer.
And now, 2023, Chainsaw Man, then Oshi No Ko, and THEN Frieren with a dozen or so other really great seasons the were just outshon.
We're here, this is it. I remember the golden age of television, this is what it felt like.
