Gop isn’t itself racist despite what they say but they give too much voice to those who are and so their candidates are largely the same white men that those groups have been told is le enemy. Wouldnt be hard for them to get someone up there whos latino and say “hey, we love your focus on family, we want to protect that, the dems call you latinx” but they instead push up people to make fun of mexicans despite already having full ownership of the make fun of mexican vote. Polarization, they worry if they get rid of the things that keep their diehards there they wont have anything to stand out against the dems but they need to focus on getting new diehards.
