>>20003983it's not this black and white and there is no need for this level of intensity. at the end of the day it is about regulating insulin levels in order to lose weight for most people. athletes may have different concerns, as insulin is also anabolic aka causes muscle growth so a certain amount of carbs would be smart for someone in that demographic. the doc in the op exercises a ton and is huge so he is kind of an outlier in a lot of ways.
but refined sugar comes from sugar cane and beets, whose juices are dried and the crystals collected. you are correct about the fiber being a mitigating factor, but again that is because it inhibits insulin spike to some degree. so when we lose focus of the main idea, which is insulin regulation, we run astray.
so the solution for most people is as simple as eating low glycemic index foods, which in practical terms means upping the fats - NOT protein! - consumed. ice cream has loads of sugar but a low glycemic index because the main ingredient is liquid fat, aka cream. also reheating carbs like rice and potatoes has a lower gi than fresh cooked for some reason, so that is an option.
but the main take away is that if you eat sugars, which aren't that bad in moderation, with fat and you should be ok.
it should also be stated that many people are more into certain diets because of the "tribe" mentality, like it defines them as a person. vegans and carnivores can both end up in the same repellent place.
