I just moved from Japan, and the food here is terrible: Chicken

Did you know American chicken from the grocery stores is full of water? Today I made a chicken and rice bowl. I had to cook the chicken for 3x longer than normal because so much water comes out of American chicken. It wouldn't brown because it was floating in water. Not only did it take longer to cook, but the water boiling in the pan seems to have melted any fat in the chicken, drawing it out. This left the chicken dry and tasteless. I asked a neighbor and he says this is perfectly normal, because they add water to the chicken to increase profit. Even though I purchased organic free range yuppie chicken at $14/lb, this was still a problem. The chicken was so dry I nearly choked on it. Is there nothing good to eat in this country? Why is this even legal as it seems to be common knowledge that this fraudulent practice is happening?
