You need to fix that, first.
I think Japan has good sense about this, the society reject haafus by default, but if they totally adopt (or at least recognize and pay obesiance, some of the time) Japanese customs, they get accepted as Japanese enough.
It helps Japanese culture is high-status even world-wide though
