There is an argument that says that never happened. Why the dark ages are so dark. Normans are Romans. Jesus was criucified in ~1033 and the crusades were in resonse. Judeans wer expelled by Romans, went to the desert and swept back as "Muslims" under a new prophet. Vikings are pre-Roman.

Bit odd how England became Christian under Romans but it left no trace and Saxons carried on as pagan, forgetting to build anything.

Lots of places here are said to be abandoned between the fall of Rome and the Norman conquest. Handy.
