Community-developed software is even more-so since "anyone can contribute." So you shouldn't be surprised to see free software communities publicly signal support for marginalized groups, eg. African Americans, Palestinians, LGBT, etc. It would be more surprising to see the opposite, eg. a white supremacist software community, since they'd be excluding potential contributors (the Brian Foxes of the world.)
