a silverfish but not quite the same:
ctenolepisma (silverfish is lepisma) is a few millimeters longer (not counting hairs but the actual body) than regular Finnish silverfish
it is not known whence they came but they are in Finland now
https://www.is.fi/asuminen/art-2000010411973.html
Minna, 24, pulled this, little less than 2 centimeter long, larva from her bed when she woke up
Usually it rans away immediately when exposed to light, they want to live in total darkness
They are becoming more common every year, while the insect does die if it encounters Finnish winter, its perfectly fine inside apartments and a fast breeder, only one male and one female larva are needed to cause an outbreak
>it lives 10 years and produces a litter of offspring every 6 months
compare this to butterfly who lives 2 weeks and you see why this critter is a problem
ctenolepisma has survived on Earth approximately for 200 million years, at least such an old fossil was found from Germany and it looked very much the same as the critter we see today
German nature is suitable for the larva but Finnish aint so they are only inside homes or they wont exist at all
It is disgusting and it eats paper, anykind of glue, particularly book-glue, destroying old books in the process, also newspapers
It DOES NOT eat human food though. Your food supply is safe. It does not drink blood. But it MAY eat your clothes if it doesnt find paper-fibers to consume. Also rotten wood trunks is good for it. But its not likely to find such from homes.
