>>20260707yeah, i think that music theory is almost integral to the type of style i'm trying to achieve, but really, at a base level, it's just the language used to express musical phenomena. i can imagine that for others, that simple chord progressions will do because they can get away with complex sound design and creating textures, like asmr, but music.
>It seems you don't overly complicated chords or chord progressions if you make a good timbre and spice with effects.for me, i have a different approach. i do believe that simplicity is integral to making good music, not having anything too crazy complex or distracting from the core essence of your ideas, but i also believe that synths are not pianos, and that edm production is unique to instrumental composition. i believe this because in edm, a big part is sound design and in a synth, you can kinda get away with writing mega chords to boost the harmonic richness of that synth, an effect in and of itself, and a common technique i'll use is to roll the entire chord, staggering the notes because it gives more texture to the sound, but i don't think this will apply in all cases. it just so happens that it works in mine, or at least, i can get away with it. you couldn't do this in a piano because all the tones will end up clashing with eachother, rather than adding harmonic richness and complexity to the sound. it's kinda more in line with the same idea of guitar chords and how you can go anywhere on the fretboard without worrying about voicings too much.
i'm sure learning fl will prove no obstacle to you, Ritsu, if you've managed to learn all this much about theory and composition. really, the difficulty comes when the daw limits you, and you kinda have to find a way to work around it, but i'm hoping it doesn't have to come to that for you because it's just another headache to deal with. best of luck on your musical journey, i hope that you get to actualize your creative vision, and above all, enjoy yourself^^
