Now that /biz/ has been taken in, perhaps this would be a good time to get feedback on an idea I've been working on recently, namely that lions might be the optimal form of currency. Advantages to a lion-based money system:
>Lions reproduce on their own, making them an infinitely-renewable resource.
>Lion reproduction occurs on a reliable timetable with mating seasons, gestation periods, etc. This gives them an advantage similar to Bitcoin, in that new currency would be produced at more-or-less predictable intervals.
>It's actually better than Bitcoin, however, because special breeding programs could confer some of the advantages of a central bank to regulate the supply of money, without enabling unlimited irresponsible money-printing as in the current system.
>Lions become very dangerous and can even kill people as they age, which would encourage people to move their money through the economy quickly and discourage egregious hoarding of wealth.
>Amassing riches would require setting aside and protecting suitable land for the lions to live on, making this by far the most environmentally-friendly concept of money in human history.
>Elite support for a transition to this system would be virtually guaranteed due to the overwhelming adoration of lions by elite groups, which can be seen in the historical tendency of elites to include lions on heraldic art and other iconography.
>There is already sound precedent for the association of lions with currency in popular consciousness as well (e.g., Operation LIONCASH) so explaining the transition to the masses and getting them onboard would not be that difficult.

What do you guys think? I can't really see any good arguments against this.
