I saw Sargon of Akkad's video on Human Resources and how a managerial class instead of leaders run Western nations. They don't account for culture at all.
I'm not in favor of immigrating to another country and trying to make the country you immigrated to into the place that you escaped. Many economic migrants are like that, and I disapprove of that. But, after spending nearly a year outside of the US, I can see where they're coming from on some level; after being in the unfamiliar, you crave the familiar. It's weird to crave McDonald's or Domino's pizza, essentially trash food in America that I never found myself craving in the US. I only would eat because I was lazy and had no better options. But, when presented with the choice, I never ate from these places.
But now I understand where foreigners are coming from. I get why Muslims and Hindus insist on eating familiar food because they don't know what they're eating, and they have a religious reason to avoid certain foods. But, outside of that, familiar food can be a comfort after you've been outside of your country long enough.
