when I wake up with a hangover the thought of drinking again that day makes me sick
if it's bad enough I swear never to drink again but I'll be over it in a week
some days I smoke weed or go hiking instead

I went through AA and learned how to drink responsibly. I have a drink or two on Fridays. Sometimes I go out with my team, the executives or our c suite to have a few with the people that matter but that's more for face than enjoyment.

I binge drank since turning 21 and some years drank almost every day. One month I subsisted on literally nothing but 40s of Mickey's and $1 gas station hot dogs but it gave me a scary ulcer so i improved my diet a bit. Quit drinking last October and don't really think about it anymore, but I basically just replaced it with a 50g/day Kratom addiction. Not nearly as bad as drinking a fifth every night but certainly not ideal.

I'm not OP but I wish I could switch to Kratom. Lo and behold it's processed by the liver and I already ended up in the E.R. for acute liver failure once so I can't do alcohol or kratom.
