Very good advice. I've never seen any intact "straps" or packs of Notgeld or hyperinflationary bills here so the ones not already opened must have mostly stayed in Europe.

I'm sure you've seen the Zimbabwe 100 Trillion Dollar notes from 2008 which sell for over $100 each now (and which Chinese bugmen are counterfeiting too), and perhaps you've come across the 1946 Hungarian 100 Quintillion Pengo notes which sell for over $400 each, IIRC they were the largest denomination bill that ever circulated. I'm pretty sure I remember seeing straps of those Zimbabwe bills on eBay around 2010 being sold super cheap, maybe around $1-$2 per note. Those would've been a windfall investment, but as you say we may get new chances to acquire other ridiculous denomination notes as the fiat collapse progresses.

I wonder how that's supposed to work. Basically there must be a limit to how many non-depreciating goods you can buy. Kind of like those coupon books in some communist countries. You couldn't just buy most things with money alone, you needed a loicense too which you got once a month from your employer. But then money is essentially worthless because no matter how much you have all you can buy is stuff that rots in a week. Then there is no point in acquiring it.

Exactly! I cringe when I remember all the boxes of old NES/SNES and other different older video game systems and games I passed on at thrift shops, garage sales and markets in the late 90s/early 00s. I was too young to afford buying it all and didn't know what it would be worth in 20 years, but i remember thimgs like batches of sealed unopened NES games no one even wanted for $1 each just sitting there. Yeah, I have a good eye for lots of antiques but almost no hands-on experience with art glass and ornamental porcelain/china. Here in the US almost all of those things are more modern repros but in France you may be able to find actual 18th century treasures. 19th-mid 20th century art glass vases like the unique hand-made stuff from Italian glassblowing shops can be worth a small fortune but I've never found any. You're probably in a better part of the world to look though so keep your eyes open.

Yes! Especially 18th-19th century whaling ship era scrimshaw like the whale tooth in your pic. My dad used to collect scrimshaw he came across cheap back in the 80s-90s before the Internet but unfortunately he didn't didn't have the experience or "eye" to determine authenticity. When I pulled out from storage and studied his modest collection I determined that only 2 pieces are authentic, a small walrus tusk and a sperm whale tooth from the earlier 19th century (I'll try to take pics when I visit) but real scrimshaw is worth so damn much now and he got everything so cheap that the rest being fakes doesn't matter at all. He was understandably disappointed that more weren't real but he's still sittin' mighty pretty. He'll proudly brag to friends that I'm much more discerning and advanced and that he consults and trusts my judgement above his and anyone else he knows in the realm of antiques, but that credit ultimately goes to him for being an awesome father. For exposing me at a very young age to the things i love now, for almost spoiling me by allowing me to spread my wings, follow my nose and immerse myself in things in ways he was never allowed to as a kid. He's always been a skilled and attentive hobby gardener and arborist, and like a gardener he provided the rich soil and environment and nutriments which allowed me to grow and become who i am. Although not as directly hands-on my mother supported and encouraged it entirely too, without which it wouldn't have been possible. If I had any other parents my soul would have been stunted if not entirely crushed, I was blessed to be born to them. They're saints among boomers and I love and respect them completely and unequivocally. If you ever have children remember to let them become who they're meant to be too, that's what I'm trying to do for my own lovely little kids. Sorry for the blog but that scrimshaw gave me some feels lol.

Thermal conductivity can be problematic and the reactivity of certain foods or drinks with silver can impart unpleasant flavors, but quality silver vessels with gold washed or plated interiors that don't really react are easy to find if that's your main complaint

Maybe I'm just being uncharitable, but in my experience France is an unbearably smelly, foul-smelling place from its cities to its supposedly delicious cuisine. I just can't get over how intensely bad it all smells there. The odors seem to linger everywhere you go and burn themselves into your nostrils and clothes. Perhaps the French have just gotten used to living in such overpoweringly smelly surroundings, but for me the terrible stenches make the entire country quite unpleasant to spend too much time in.

He needs to nurture plants and trees and play in the dirt outside a lot to remain content, so I'll do whatever I can to provide and maintain access to the environment he loves and have a sewing, craft and quilting room for mom set up to facilitate those rather less grubby hobbies. It's not even a matter of familial obligation or anything, I'd love doing that for them if or when the time comes and really enjoy their company.

Yessir, that was one of my take-aways also. As much as I'd like to joke about him being representative of all maxis that anon was (probably not an "is" anymore kek) definitely an uncommonly naive and irresponsible retard, but that episode still gives us a pretty sobering view of the fragility or weak-points on the user's end of such complex and technologically interdependent systems. And infrastructure vulnerabilities, geopolitics, demographic and cultural changes embrittle the systems at-large. Although I have a little in the bag just in case, my gut instinct won't allow me to trust crypto for those and many other reasons.
