I don’t think its duality, they are conflicted. The ones that have to constantly work and do dirty jobs all the time probably simp for the Imperial days due to thr fraternalistic nature of work in Japan while those that have free time on their hands are probably apologetic all the time

You have to realize that Japan neutered itself after World War II. They gave up their armies and empire after being completely humiliated. And to cope with that, they developed their kawaii+echii culture. They decided to drop their ambition and become addicted to gacha games and vr porn.
