>>470061336Its a betrayal of trust in the highest order. Horrific videos of soldiers killing each other dont cause that same reaction because everyone involved had the choice to be there or not, even in cases of conscription the man involved, though he ignored it, had the agency and ability to flee. A bear could overpower a man but a man could trap it entirely, and keep it trapped without any force used. Then, that bear is entirely at the mercy of said man. Trust would dictate that the man would either provide the bear what it needs to live well or kill it swiftly for food. Anyone who has hunted an animal is well aware that if a kill isnt a clean and quick death that animals meat will be at best rough to eat and if its suffering is prolonged the meat becomes disgusting, containing the full flavor of the animals pain. There is no good reason to kill an animal slowly, it is a perversion of everything that is true. Add onto that an animal that is incapable of causing anything more than an annoyance, being entirely removed from any imagination of guilt, and it becomes even more of a perversion of what is true.
You cant even call men like this animals because even animals that play with their food simply play with it for a while and then kill it, they dont systematically and methodically cause as much pain as possible.
Some animals are capable of incredible violence, but they arent capable of evil. The difference between an animal playing with its food and a man torturing an animal for the hell of it is the concept of evil itself, the animal found something interesting to play with, the man wonders and makes plans to see just how evil he can be. War is a contest between men, and everyone involved has a choice to be involved. That is why videos of soldier dying can have a certain effect but dont cause a distinct demand for justice unlike when it is noncombatants who are killed..
