the team becomes much larger because games only needed a few people back in the day but now you need lots of people, so the number of new people who are there just to do something new greatly outnumber the people who made the originals and are proud of them and want to keep a legacy
even worse, many of the people who worked on the first games aren't there anymore, and most probably some of them were forcefully replaced because new games require different tools and some boss thought it was easier to hire someone new who know the new tools instead of waiting for the old crew to get used to them
and, on top of those difficulties, there's also the fact that when you have a legacy of many stories and you want to keep making more and more at some point you can only either write something emulating the previous stories that might feel like a rehash (and will be worse than the original), or try something new (and end up losing exactly what people liked in the original)
I am not defending insomniac or anything, quite the opposite, I always find it shameful when a company can't do something good and starts pumping garbage, but just looking at the list of games I already figured that at some point the games stopped being games and became just shovelware
