A lot of people don't know but back in the 90s, under Bill Clinton they passed a Federal Law that said whatever amount of money the State forces the parent who didn't win custody of the children (90% of the time its men) the Federal Government will pay the State a matching amount of money that the State can spend however it wants. This was part of the big Welfare Reform package they did at the time.
Since men make money the State has a strong incentive to award custody of the children to the mother, even if she's a total fuck-up, and the State is further incentivized to demand larger and larger Child Support payments since the State gets a matching kick-back from the Federal Government.
So now you have a generation of men under this system who were making say, $50k a year, get divorced, the State demands $25k/yr in Child Support, the man is now trying to live on $25k/yr which puts him at the poverty line, however the man cannot count these Child Support payments against his taxes, so he still pays income taxes on $50k/yr, so now he's in really bad financial shape, and to top it off the Man still wont qualify for any sort of Welfare programs himself because as far as the State is concerned he's single, has no children, and makes $50k/yr.
Which is why this current generation has so many young men with a Doomer mindset regarding marriage, they also likely grew up seeing it first hand as children and saw their Dad every other weekend, living in a tiny apartment, totally demoralized.
