>>472583119i've been getting more into body practice lately. have been a meditator for a while but never really connected with yoga until recently.
the trick was combining a few different meditation practices to make it a totally different experience.
first i make sure the weight distribution into my base doesn't change. so if i'm doing cat/cow i pay extra attention to the pressure in my hands in knees, and making it even and light. if too much pressure in hands i move my hips back. so yeah the first is making it a practice of mindfulness of weight distribution.
second is a practice of minimalism and isolating the moving parts. so again if doing cat/cow, once my weight distribution is even and light, i focus on having the least amount of muscles actually active and moving as possible. keeping the inactive body parts relaxed and still brings a new level of concentration to the movement.
finally the intention i bring to the ACTIVE body parts is not stretching but lightness. i view all sensation as activity of the nervous system and tension, and so when arching the back into cat pose it's less of a pushing strain and move of a natural opening. it's kind of hard to describe, but i pay extra attention to the mind of force or effort that is being exerted by the active group and try to minimize it. this focus on relaxed movement doing the poses has actually caused my body to open up much more than usual. I don't have to stretch my ligaments so much as relax them
