How many languages does the average Euro speak? I'm trying to into multilingualism I have a 310 day duolingo streak mostly in dutch because I got 'zellig autism. I also want to learn either french, japanese, or german too. I'm slightly worried having too many languages in my brain will make me short circuit or something.

My guess would be that Europeans know two languages on average (their native language and English.)
If you want to learn multiple languages at once, I'd try learning different "families" of language - don't mix up Italian and Spanish, for example, but you can try German and Japanese.

Good fucking luck with French, though. I'm not sure it's possible to learn if you didn't grow up having to speak it.

Damn really? It's just in the same family as Spanish though right? The pronunciation and spelling is pure madness but it doesn't look grammatically too difficult yet.

French is closest to Romanian in most ways. In terms of grammar, it's between German and Italian. Spanish is too different, in my opinion.
The grammar is madness mostly because of spoken French, which is almost another language to some learners.

I think I know a little about what you mean. So far Duolingo has shown me changing pitch turns a statement into a question and some words just run into eachother.

Yes. But, I can almost kinda read dutch and sometimes guess the meaning of words through context clues.

To be fair Dutch is a category 1 language and is the closest to English other than Frisian (nobody cares) and Scots (most don't consider a different language). If you didn't get a good idea of written Dutch after one year of learning it that'd just be sad

Romanian will be fifth. Yes I'm also studying at uni but spending hour or so on it isn't a problem for me. I also try to study other stuff outside of uni.
I believe that we have lots of time. Enough time to become really good in many different fields

Dutch and French are category 1 but German is category 2 even though it looks just like Dutch?

A good chunk of the English language comes from French, so it's not that unsurprising. But I wouldn't say it's easy for English-speakers.
