Keep in mind that the parts were machined before hand and reasonably flat to begin with likely to within around 10 or 20 thousandths of an inch. Most modern engines heads are flat to within about .010" and sports cars lower that flatness to below .003". Machining is usually reworked at the factory if the tolerances are not met, however a wavy engine surface can escape and end up in a car that will eventually make that pfpfpffpfffpffffffffpffffffpfffffg if driven too hard hahaha i had a hyundai rental a few years ago and it made the same noise that my neighbors ancient 90s suburban would make because the head was wavy as heck

Disclaimer i have only disassembled and measured and reworked 20something engine blocks and cylinder heads and i dont work for that machine shop resurfacing engines anymore, still in contact with my old boss because he is a cool guy.
