how do you increase the amount of neurons in the neocortex without making the skull bigger because the size of the birth canal is prohibitive? (i.e. why the Neanderthals were outbred by Homo sapiens sapiens, because they had larger brains due to increased skull sizes but this was accommodated by their females dying in childbirth more often).
you change the geometry. you fold the neocortex to increase surface area.
same thing with solar panels on aircraft. everyone tries to slap as many on the wings as they can. no one bothers to think about making 3D solar cells and using fibre optics to waveguide the photons into these solar cell hexagons like honeycomb. the photons are completely absorbed via P/NP hole pairs as first pass, second pass, etc.
